First CRC meeting in Tallinn

These are the notes taken in the first CRC gathering in Tallinn, September 2011.

Present in the meeting were: David van Vliet, Professor at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, department City and Environmental Planning; Olov Schultz, architect, Swedish National Board of Housing, Executive Advisor International Affairs; Anne-Marie Chavanon, Chair of the Democracy Social Cohesion and Global Challenges Committee of the Conference of the NGO's Council of Europe; Pim de Leeuw, Masterstudent Urban Planning at Utrecht University; Femke Haccou, Landscape Architect at the Planning Department City of Amsterdam; Huibert A Haccou, Professor at school of Environmental Planning and Building, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, Deventer.

After a round of introductions and the presentations given by  Huibert A Haccou and David van Vliet, which are published here at this page, the Group decided to advance the following ideas with the follwing actions: Olaf Schultz will contact Klas Forsberg - and Bo Aronsson to develop a suitable problem statement regarding an urgent planning problem the City of Gothenburg has to deal with and would be willing to have an international group of practitioners focus on in a two days workshop Implementation Lab (Interactive Intervision Workshop) as part of the programme of the 56th IFHP World Congress September 2011.

An idea was 'Recovering Canals as Water buffer in urban fabric of Gothenburg'.

This will be linked with the contacts that David van Vliet has established with the IBA in Hamburg, The IBA in Hamburg could be considered as a very interesting reference case for the IL of Gothenburg See www.iba-hamburg.de and www.iclei.org.

Other reference cases being Utrecht and/or Arnhem (reintroducing canals in the city) or Rotterdam (flood management) in the Netherlands. Amsterdam LES (Leidraad Energetische Stedenbouw, Guide to Energetic City Building) of the City of Amsterdam could also be of interest.

David van Vliet will look for interesting reference cases in Canada – USA ref cases on Energy Landscapes both for a possible inspirational visit programme on energy landscapes.

Anne Marie Chavanon will investigate and contact potential hosting cities for Implementation Labs in French cities and cities the Mediterranean Circle.

Metaphorically speaking one could see this IFHP Working Group Climate Resilient Cities as the bumble bee that fertilizes the flowers with new planning concepts and  ideas.
