Agreement on the 52nd World Congress signed in Puerto Rico
San Juan, Puerto Rico – January 28th 2008
The Secretary of Interior Jorge Silva Puras and the Secretary of Housing Jorge Rivera signed the agreement on the 52nd IFHP World Congress to be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from October 12 to 15, 2008. On behalf of the IFHP, Francesc Ventura i Teixidor signed the document.
The Secretary of Interior indicated that in October 2005, during the 49nd World-wide Congress of IFHP held in Rome, San Juan was designated as the host city for the 52nd World-wide Congress of Planning and House, which coincides with the anniversary of the city of Puerto Rico (1508-2008).
Silva Puras explained that the World-wide Congress is an annual international event organized by the IFHP that counts on the participation of recognized professional and suppliers of the industry of housing and planning. The congress expects the participation of more than 800 professionals (architects, engineers and planners), in addition to a considerable group of city planners, students and developers. The main subject of the Congress is: "housing beyond its walls: planning for an accessible and sustainable habitat."
The IFHP has organised two congresses in Latin America before, in 1938 in City of Mexico and 1960 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
