DIS Seminar Night on Social Cities

Date(s):
Wednesday 21.03.2018
Location:
Kosmopol, Fiolstræde 44, 1171 Copenhagen K

Social Cities: Cities for People / People for Cities
- Essential ingredients for implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and New Urban Agenda.

The godfather of public space & public life, Jan Gehl, Founder of Gehl Architects, and Flemming Borreskov, President of the International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP) & Catalytic Society will offer a back-to-back presentation of their visions for “cities for people”, their paradigm of human-scale and “people for cities”.  The focus will be on the importance of partnerships across sectors and disciplines.

Anette Galskjøt, IFHP CEO, together with Regitze Marianne, IFHP Director of International Affairs & DIS Lecturer, will elaborate on how partnerships are key ingredients to the implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and New Urban Agenda. They will address the importance of measuring social sustainability of cities and communities and introduce the new IFHP Social Cities Index. The Social Cities Index is a new tool to rebalance the three pillars of sustainability and is in keeping with Jan Gehl’s “measure what we care about”-philosophy. It is made possible through support from Realdania and the Rambøll Foundation.

This DIS Seminar Night is open to DIS students, and part of the curriculum for DIS urban studies. A limited number of seats are available for the IFHP community.
