Housing Refugees

Defining Challenges and Solutions for the adequate Housing of Refugees in the EU

A report, a lab and a presentation and a discussion to understand, share and discuss ways to deal with the current migration flow putting European housing under pressure.

In conjunction of the 51st ISOCARP Congress IFHP, in association with the Danish Architecture Centre, will conduct a range of activities related to housing refugees as we believe we need to share learnings, best practice and discuss potential together to manage the current situation for most of the countries in the EU.

The International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP) will raise the urgent topic of refugee housing in the EU. Through the contribution of the IFHP’s professional community of housing and planning experts this programme of studies, meetings and workshops will help develop thinking and solutions in this urgent matter.
With increased numbers of refugees travelling into the EU, accommodating them in permanent housing has become a major challenge. Many EU countries are already under pressure to provide social and affordable housing for their native populations and with varying national measures and political perspectives towards the provision of housing refugees, the European response is somewhat fragmented.

Utilising it’s international professional community within housing and planning, the IFHP will facilitate a programme of activities, bringing the best of it’s membership network to contribute knowledge and expertise to the betterment of the urban habitat for refugee and resident populations.
