Housing for Refugees: Food for Thought - Part i

Wednesday 08.06.2016
RAI Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Forum 1 - Hall 11)

During the 2016 Provada Fair in Amsterdam, IFHP will host the workshop ‘Housing for refugees: Food for Thought’ on the provision of housing for holders of a residence permit.

The refugee issue continues to be a thorn in the side of Europe’s leaders, and no comprehensive solution to stemming the flow is yet in sight. For many, this is reason enough to avoid this politically sensitive issue.

But in the Netherlands there will most certainly be a need to call on the construction industry to provide long-term housing for a large group of refugees once they have acquired formal refugee status and have been issued a residence permit.
This marks the first “Food for Thought” event, which focuses on housing for holders of a residence permit in a context of continuous monitoring of demographic trends at regional and local levels, taking into account urban population and household growth over the long term. This will require an adaptive residential construction strategy and a policy that focuses on more than the enormous demand for housing in the short term.
The workshop, related to the fair’s day theme ‘Gamechangers’, will be moderated by Peter Savelberg.
IFHP Council member Huibert Haccou will present the results of the IFHP activities and guiding principels for housing of refugees as vulnerable citizens and new comers on the housing market. Check out the work with Housing of vulnerable groups with a special focus on refugees.
IFHP CEO Anette Galskjøt will also be present on stage and participate in discussions. The event will be held in Forum 1 - Hall 11 from 13:45 - 14:30.
