IFHP-AESOP Decade of Planning Lecture Series

Klaus Kunzmann

As part of their Silver Jubilee (2012) and Centenary (2013) celebrations, AESOP and IFHP have launched a joint activity – a series of some 7-8 lectures by eminent planners and planning related academics and professionals – that is meant to attract not only the planning community but also a wider audience: politicians, community leaders and organizations, business and the media.

The lectures will focus on fundamental, present-day challenges that face planning and planners as a modern discipline in a new role in our contemporary complex and dynamic society.

The first speaker of this lecture series is Professor Klaus Kunzmann, the first President of AESOP, who will talk on 'Planning Education in Europe: Challenges and Pathways into the future', on January 28th, 2012, at Cappenberg Castle (near Dortmund, http://www.schlosscappenberg.de);

Professor Andreas Faludi will be speaking at the Sorbonne IV, Paris on 2nd June 2012 on 'Twentieth Century Foundations of European Planning'. Other speakers are being approached and more information will follow as they confirm their preparedness to speak.

The intention is that the lecturers meet in a panel discussion and debate as a major event at the IFHP Centenary congress in London in September 2013.
