IFHP at Habitat III in Quito - Overview page

Date(s):
Saturday 15.10.2016 to Thursday 20.10.2016
Location:
Quito

IFHP is present at the UN Habitat III conference in Quito from 17-20 October to conduct several activities and to contribute to the New Urban Agenda whilst simultaneously representing the interests of its community and partners.
Subsequently IFHP will act as an implementation agent and translate the New Urban Agenda to its corporate partners so that the outcome of the NUA can be entrenched in their business practices. IFHP’s presence at Quito is made possible by Novo Nordisk, Rambøll, the Velux Group, Danfoss and Realdania.

Why is Habitat III important?

The existing urban paradigm is challenged by the historic shift in where and how the world’s communities are living and working. A majority of the population around the globe is living in urban rather than rural areas. Further, demographic changes, migration, inequality, segregation, lack of adequate and affordable housing and the speed at which these and many more trends are picking up, are all present examples of challenges, which the existing paradigm and solutions do not meet.

At IFHP we believe Habitat III along with the Sustainable Development Goals will provide the relevant forum for urban professionals to acknowledge the historic shift and more importantly; how to deal with it. We are confident that the New Urban Agenda, will be a relevant frame for the years to come in which we will co-create across sectors including the relevant private, public and civic society partners. We need priorities and strategies that take into account the evolving patterns of the new century.
