Spontaneous City Seminar
On October 14, 2011, IFHP's Spontaneous City working group hosted a one day seminar in Oostenburg, Amsterdam. For this seminar, we invited the international community in the Netherlands to share their research and personal and professional experiences about Spontaneous Cities. Why are ‘spontaneous cities’ simultaneously so special and yet so difficult to replicate? How can we allow for spontaneity to occur in the face of omnipresent planning controls and which rules and regulations are the most useful (or hindering) to spontaneous development? What are the inspirations, challenges and pitfalls of this model of development that are experienced around the world? All participants were free to bring their perspectives to discuss these questions – or to formulate their own!
A short summary of the event can be found here.
