The World Design Summit - Montréal

Monday 16.10.2017 to Wednesday 25.10.2017
Palais des Congrès de Montréal, Montreal, Canada

Designing the future. The World Design Summit - Montréal 2017 (WDS) is an unprecedented international gathering of diverse disciplines with a common focus: How design can shape the future.
During the World Design Summit 2017, Montréal will host design professionals, architects, urban planners, government and business leaders, industry representatives, media and NGOs from around the world. For 10 days, under the general theme "Changing the World through Design", attendees will come together to transcend silos, foster cooperation and enhance professional development. More than a mere celebration of design, the summit will demonstrate the tremendous power of design to create viable solutions, as attendees will collaboratively endeavour to develop and share innovative and practical solutions to global social, economic, cultural and environmental challenges of the 21st century. These ideas will subsequently be presented to private and public sector decision-makers and the public at large.
IFHP is one of the three founding partners of the World Design Summit. Our Special Advisor, Regitze Hess, is on the Steering Committee of the WDS, on behalf of the IFHP.

The Summit of International Organizations: Global Action Harnessing the Power of Design

The Summit of International Organizations will be a historic gathering of 50 international organizations, all with a common objective: developing an international action plan for harnessing the power of design to address pressing global challenges.
With IcoD: International Council of Design, IFLA: International Federation of Landscape Architects and IFHP at the lead, international organizations representing design, architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture, are coming together for the first time with representatives of intergovernmental and supranational organizations and specialized agencies, such as UNESCO, OECD, UNEP and ICLEI.
The first World Design Summit Meeting, set to take place in Montréal on October 23-25 2017, will be an unprecedented moment of global unity in seeking design-driven solutions.
Together, the participants will develop and put forth a declaration and 10-year implementation framework for continued international collaboration towards the shared objective: designing a better world for all.
IFHP is specifically tasked with gathering leading voices on the impact of design on society, which goes hand in hand with IFHP’s own focus on fostering socially sustainable cities. We are calling upon the greater IFHP community and extended network to join in putting design policy and design solutions on the global agenda as vehicles for implementation of the UN 2030 Goals.
