In the unique setting of Brunei Darussalam, over 100 participants from Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago and the UK gathered for the 44th EAROPH Regional Conference 2011. The topical theme "Managing Urban Growth: Challenges for Small Cities" was explored through the lens of natural resources & climate change; good governance; and housing & asset management.

Thanks to all who made the 3rd World Town Planning Day Online Conference a success! With registrants from more than 18 countries, we had a great time learning about different aspects of public spaces around the world: from the transformation of Guayaquil, Equador to strategies to regenerate public space at Internet City Dubai.

IFHP's Spontaneous City Working Group hosted a one-day seminar on 14 October, and invited the international community in the Netherlands to share their research and personal and professional experiences about Spontaneous Cities. Programme included invited speakers, presentations, discussion and a short excursion.

IFHP’s 55th World Congress (The Impact of Housing & Planning on the Economy, 11-14 Sept. 2011) was held this year in Tallinn, Estonia - a 2011 European Capital of Culture. The Congress explored the embedded synergies between housing, planning, sustainability and the wider economy.

The Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (YTK) at the Aalto University School of Science and Technology was hosting the sixteenth edition of the YTK/IFHP Summer School in Finland. YTK started this programme in 1995 under the auspices of the IFHP. The course was organised in cooperation with the cities of Helsinki, Turku and Jyväskylä. The Director of the Summer School is Professor Panu Lehtovuori from Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn.

This four-day conference attracted more than 250 researchers and professionals from a staggering 55 countries. Absolutely inspirational was the motivation of all present to break down the traditional disciplinary silos of planning and water management – and try to put them back together again in an integrated manner, recognizing that we can get much better outcomes as a result.
