IFHP and Realdania. Rio+20 success

The United Nations Rio+20 summit achieved its first success last night

The United Nations Rio+20 summit achieved its first success last night when a guide to 100 ready and available sustainable solutions was presented at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Behind this tangible outcome is the Sustainia initiative, which IFHP and Realdania has proudly partnered with to help build a sustainable future.

The guide is called Sustainia100 and contains existing solutions only – all ready for use at large scale. If implemented, they could kick-start the transition to sustainable societies across the globe. The 100 solutions are a tribute to the innovation and progress made on sustainable field.

IFHP and Realdania are partners to Sustainia as we consider it crucial to highlight that a sustainable future is not something far-fetched. The Sustainia100 guide is an excellent framework for discussions on sustainable development in the fields of build environment, housing and planning” says Flemming Borreskov CEO at Realdania and IFHP President.

The solutions are gathered from all over the world. 56 countries on six continents are represented in the Sustainia100 guide that is handed to decision makers at the Rio+20 Summit currently taking place.

The Sustainia100 solutions cover 10 sectors; energy, buildings, cities, transportation, resources, food, fashion, health, education and information technology. Each solution is chosen as it, in an outstanding way, lives up to the Sustainia100 criteria of being; ready and available, scalable, collaborative, transformative, cost effective, has positive environmental impact and increases the quality of life for all.

Sustainia is the greatest story never told. We have solutions available to transform societies into desirable and sustainable hotspots. What we need is collaboration and implementation at large scale. By handing these concrete solutions to decision makers we hope to inspire and facilitate the political debate around possibilities instead of obstacles”, says Laura Storm, Executive Director of Sustainia.
