X Biennial of European Towns and Town Planners

Thursday 19.09.2013 to Saturday 21.09.2013
Cascais, Portugal

Children that are born today will live until 2090. We are also preparing our cities for them. How to do it? And how to combine the new paradigms, the new basis of cities life, with the overcome of the actual crisis?

The Biennial will try to answer these questions and will be focused on different aspects of these subjects:

  1. Theoretical presentations by keynote speakers and papers authors (general and specific, about energy, water, information, public participation, demography; environment; new technologies, new materials, new methodologies, etc)
  2. Mayor’s Summit
  3. Cascais New Paradigms Workshop
  4. Young Planners Workshop on City without Public Economic Funds
  5. Best practices exhibition of innovative urban solutions
  6. Best practices exhibition of innovative plans and projects that were recently completed
  7. Exhibition of new technologies recently developed
  8. The exhibition and conference about the awarded winning projects in the last two European Urban and Regional Planning Awards

There is also a special focus on water, energy and communication.

We will publish the conferences and presentations made within the scope of the call for papers. We have organised an exhibition of the town planning awards given by the European Council of Town Planners. We will hand out the Cascais Prémio de Urbanismo 2013 (Cascais Urban Award 2013) award to the best work presented, based on Master’s thesis and PHD’s recently obtained. We will organize an exhibition of new Technologies related to towns. We will present the results of the Young Town Planners workshop: Cities with Little Financing. We will present solutions for best practices for plans and projects.

Thus we will try to: mobilize the European town planners to interchange ideas and practices; reduce the gap between the theory and the practice of town planning; mobilizing young town planners and giving them a place to intervene; bringing the experience of the mayors that have to carry out their management tasks in an environment of ever scarcer resources; present new Technologies and examples of best practices.

It is necessary to have the theory and the best practices. Come to the 10th Biennial of European Towns and Town Planners, in Cascais. Bring us your professional experience, your questions and concerns, your answers and solutions. Together we will learn how to face the New Challenges, how to find New Opportunities, within the scope of New Paradigms.

Please make the dissemination of the Biennial to the IFHP members. It is important to have the best practices.
