The focus of the study tour will be strategic planning, innovative housing and inclusive communities.

Learning from Madrid
Discover how the giant new city-park “Madrid Rio” has transformed city life in Madrid. Hear about the revitalization of the City Centre and the extension of the Castellana Axes. Visit the housing development in Vallecas, the Ecoboulevard by Ecosistema Urbano and the development of San Chinarro, which features the housing project Mirador by MVRDV.

Monday 2  
 

WELCOME TO MADRID

  • Introduction to the program and presentation of the participants.

HISTORIC MADRID

  • City walk with architect Werner Durrer, MADRIDES
  • Introduction to the City of Madrid and selected urban development projects
  • Visit to historic public spaces

REVITALIZATION

  • Renewal of the City Centre
  • Meeting with EMVS
  • Visit to housing examples of urban renewal in Lavapiés and urban spaces 
Tuesday 3  
  EXTENSION CASTELLANA AXES
  • City walk with architect Werner Durrer
  • Visit to the extension of the city – from south to north
  • Visit to the newest projects in Madrid
  • Meeting with José Maria Ezquiaga

HOUSING

  • Visit to the newest housing development areas Vallecas and San Chinarro, Ecoboulevard by Ecosistema Urbano and Mirador by MVRDV

ROUND TABLE

  • Medialab- Prado
  • Round table discussion with high profile representatives from Madrid

OPTIONAL GROUP DINNER

  • Dinner in Restaurant La Castela Madrid

GREEN MADRID

  • Bicycle ride in Parque del Oeste, Casa de Campo
  • The planning of Madrid Rio project by West 8

EL MATADERO

  • Visit to the new cultural Center “El Matadero”
  • Transformation of an old slaughterhouse to one of the biggest cultural projects in Madrid
