Berlin Convening 2024

On 31 October and 1 November 2024, the International Federation of Housing and Planning (IFHP), Vereniging Deltametropool (VDM), and BBU Verband Berlin-Brandenburgischer Wohnungsunternehmen e. V. (BBU) organised a convening to foster knowledge exchange on housing and planning and strengthen international collaboration.

The convening explored the Berlin-Brandenburg housing perspective through a series of site visits, including a housing modernisation project in Berlin-Reinickendorf, new forms of housing in Berlin-Pankow South, and a BPD social housing project in Berlin-Wittenau. These examples showcased innovative approaches to urban development, affordable housing, and community-oriented living.

The programme also included comparative discussions on housing perspectives from Germany, the Netherlands, North America, and the international UN perspective. Key themes included affordability, housing market trends, sustainability, and the role of integrated planning approaches in creating inclusive living environments.
